Student Visa Questions
What is a J-1 Visa?
The U.S. State Department designed the J-1 visa for individuals in exchange and visitor programs. These programs combine work and study opportunities. Generally, educational or nonprofit institutions sponsor these programs through the Exchange Visitor Program. J-1 visitors travel to the United States to teach, study, or receive training. Specifically, the J-1 visa benefits students who require practical training that is unavailable in their home country. However, the training must directly relate to your academic program.
What is a F-1 Visa?
Often called the Academic Student Visa, the F-1 visa allows you to enter the United States as a full-time student. Specifically, you can attend accredited colleges, universities, academic high schools, or language training programs. To qualify, you must enroll in a course of study that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate. Furthermore, you should ensure the U.S. government authorizes your chosen school to enroll international students.
Can I register to an MBA program while on a J-1 Visa?
Certainly, you have the opportunity to apply and enroll at Alliant University during your J-1 visa status. Once you gain acceptance into the MBA program, you can actively engage in coursework. However, note that only individuals holding F-1 visa status may participate in a Curricular Practical Training (CPT) program. Therefore, you will need to transition to an F-1 visa status to partake in these practical training experiences. Fortunately, our team can guide you through this change of status process.
